A Trip to the North Shore

Terry had to work again this past Saturday and I was bummed. I sat around most of the day in my pjs and read. I was just getting ready to jump in the shower when he called a little before 3:00 p.m. to say he was on his way home. Woo Hoo! He said he was coming to scoop me up, put me in the convertible and take a drive to the North Shore. He knows I've been kind of down since we lost Miranda and I've been undergoing twice daily IV antibiotics for a bone infection. I haven't been out much, and certainly not to the beach, so it was a welcomed surprise.
We packed up, climbed in the car, put the top down and we were off. It was a beautiful January day in Hawaii and we were enjoying the beautiful blue skies and mild temperature. It was so nice to be together, outside of the house just enjoying each other's company. We haven't been up to the North Shore in a long time and it's a nice drive.

Just after the turn off into Haleiwa town we passed a police car on the side of the road. He flashed his lights and turned in behind us. I looked at Terry and said, "What's he stopping us for?" We weren't sure and pulled over as soon as it was safe. I opened the glove box to get the insurance card and registration while Terry pulled out his wallet. A very nice young Honolulu Police Department officer approached the car and told Terry he'd pulled him over for doing 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. Oops! We were visiting and enjoying each other's company and didn't even realize we were going too fast. The officer asked where we lived and who the car belonged to. Terry was very courteous and apologetic for speeding. The officer was very nice and decided to give us a break and let us go with a warning. Whew! Getting a speeding ticket would have messed up our little excursion.

What the officer didn't know is that Terry DESERVED a ticket! Not necessarily for how he was driving THAT day, but for all the other times he's been knowingly speeding or driving aggresively and didn't get caught. Oh well, he caught a break. The other irony is that I've always expected him to get pulled over for speeding in his fancy little convertible. I just never expected it to be while he was going UNDER 50 mph!
We continued on our way and enjoyed sitting at Sunset Beach and watching the angry, choppy waves slam into the beach. We went into Haleiwa for dinner at Rosie's Cantina and then drove home. Terry probably would have preferred to come home and take a nap after working six days straight but he knew I needed to get out. It was a very nice afternoon/evening and I appreciate him thinking of it. I don't tell him often enough but he's the best.
